west valley worship gatherings

September 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

Fear not, for I am with you, I will gather you… everyone who is called by my name, who I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.  (Isaiah 43:5-7)

After a summer of planning, we will begin informally gathering to worship on Sunday morning, September 14 at the old John Gould Building (322 Main Street) in Emmaus PA at 9:30am!!!  Childcare will be provided.

(Come as you are - curious, contagious, questioning, quiet, tired, excited, broken - and expect a ‘family worship’ experience among broken-but-redeemed-sinners as we are figuring out the sacrifice of worship that we can uniquely offer up to God… these “preview services” will some day give way to prepared, public worship services - all in the Lord’s time.  But should you happen by - we would delight in your presence even as we delight in the God who is drawing us together!)

May God be glorified as we gather in his presence, celebrating his gospel, as his community!

Directions: take Lehigh Street into Emmaus.  After stoplight at 3rd Street, look for the newly remodeled storefront on your left, just prior to the Triangle.  Across the street from Buss Paint.

If you have questions or are curious as to the nature of West Valley Pres, please contact pastor Jim at 610.421.8066 or stop by the West Valley PCA office on Main Street in Emmaus (next to IOBST Travel - 326 Main St, Suite 1).

west valley presbyterian church plant INTRO

July 21st, 2008 · No Comments

The west side of the Lehigh Valley is inhabited by approx. 50,000 people (Emmaus, Macungie and Lower Macungie).  Lower Macungie was the fastest growing municipality in the Commonwealth of PA in 2005-06.  As is often the case, the church usually grabs onto the tail end of demographic/cultural change, thereby never catching up to the gospel-need.  The exponential West Valley growth is no exception to the trend, leaving a dismal church-to-person ratio.  Through the West Valley Presbyterian Church plant (Presbyterian Church in America), we are trying to play catch up.

The west side of the Lehigh Valley has experienced a beautiful collision of new and old.   We long for a church plant that will bridge the divisions created by the heart of man and honor the diversity of our Creator.

West Valley Presbyterian Church is the first church plant of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Center Valley, PA.  Cornerstone was planted by God 7 years ago, with a vision to birth a church planting movement across the Lehigh Valley, that the gospel might be contextualed in the diverse neighborhoods of the valley.  Praise to God alone, as, Lord willing, West Valley Presbyterian Church will launch public worship in September of 2008.  Time and location of worship soon to be determined.

We are meeting regularly on Sunday evenings throughout July and August to pray, plan and prepare.  If you live in the Lehigh Valley, or are curious about our strategy to advance the gospel in our target area - please contact Pastor Jim (jim@cornerstonepca.net) at 610.737.2110 or stop by the West Valley office on the Triangle in Emmaus (next to Iobst Travel Agency).

West Valley pca VALUES - what do we hold dear as our unequivocal commitments for the glory of God?

July 21st, 2008 · No Comments

the Word.

we value the Old and New Testament Scriptures as the inspired Word of God –

authoritative, relevant and central in our worship, expositional preaching, teaching, and thinking

2 Timothy 3:16, 4:2

the gospel.

we value the gospel as the power of God for the salvation of everyone

who believes and for the transformation of all things

Romans 1:16, 8:23

the kingdom.

we value the heaven-to-earth Kingdom of God

and by faith seek to extend its impact from our neighborhoods

to the nations – spiritually, relationally, societally, culturally

Luke 11:1-4

the church.

we value the church as a community of authenticity –

having been called, collected and commissioned by God to embody

a refreshing culture of dependence on Christ and each other

Acts 2:42-47

the west valley.

we value the diverse people of the West Valley,

seeking to provide un-churched individuals and families with repeated

West Valley pca MISSION - how will we seek to fulfill our vision?

July 21st, 2008 · No Comments

to pursue our vision

as the church of God

according to the Word of God

in the enjoyment of God

for the glory of God

more specifically:

a church for the West Valley – evangelism

  • We will seek to understand the values and worldviews of the changing West Valley culture, such that we can contextualize the gospel with relevance and compassion.  Acts 17:22-33
  • We will pour ourselves – and Christ’s love through us – into others by prioritizing personal relationships outside of the church, wherever we live, work and play. 1 Corinthians 9:22-23

Jesus Christ our hope discipleship

  • We will disciple God’s people (children and adults) with a redemptive-historical, covenantal, and reformed interpretation of Scripture, expecting glorious transformation as we increasingly interpret and live life from a creation-fall-redemption-glory worldview. Luke 24:44-45
  • We will declare the supremacy of Jesus Christ and his gospel as the only hope for mankind to stand guiltless before God (justification) and progress in holiness (sanctification) for his glory. Titus 2:11-14

Jesus Christ celebrated worship

  • We will regularly gather for God-exalting worship that is nourishing to the believer and understandable to the unbeliever. Acts 20:7
  • We will excellently and intentionally reiterate the gospel (God’s redemptive story) through the order of each worship service.  1 Peter 2:9-10

brokenness in us community

  • We will accept and address one another as we are in our weaknesses and sin, such that we might hold one another accountable in truth and love, and be mutually dependent upon the power of Christ for transformation.  2 Corinthians 12:9-10
  • We will obediently broaden Christian fellowship, incarnating the gracious love of God to one another by sharing liberally with those among us in need.  Acts 4:32-35

brokenness around us – mercy

  • We will extend Christ’s mercy to the broken and work for the good of our community by partnering with existing organizations and ministries, or innovatively filling the gaps. Isaiah 58:12
  • We will strategically move into the sin-broken world around us by participating in a movement to plant like-minded churches in the Lehigh Valley and beyond.  Matthew 28:19-20; Titus 1:5
